Befriending Dragons Stories

My Mom died from breast cancer in 1997. At 28 years old I had subconsciously resigned myself to also dying from breast cancer. So when the doctor said all in one breath “it’s cancer but it’s curable and will be gone in a few weeks” I sighed in relief. I befriended that dragon – the “you will die like your mom did” dragon. Instead, the diagnosis was a relief, a friend, a milestone now in my past.

As I reflect over my life, I had many moments like this. Moments where the scary, impossible, sometimes unwanted thing became “I did it.” The moments when I befriended dragons. And thus was born: Befriending Dragons.

Read how I reclaimed my voice, befriending another dragon, after being harassed at Microsoft.
